Seek
AI-generated summary
Central Claim: God desires individual believers to actively seek Him and His truth rather than passively accepting institutional religious answers. McCraney argues that seeking—questioning traditions, challenging teachings, and searching Scripture—honors God and fulfills His design for faith.
Biblical Basis: Multiple passages emphasize seeking: Proverbs 25:2 (God conceals things for kings to search out), Matthew 7:7-8 (ask and find), Hebrews 11:6 (God rewards those who seek Him), and Jeremiah 29:13 (find Him when seeking with all your heart).
Yeshuan Perspective: This reflects Yeshuan theology's emphasis on subjective, personal faith over institutional authority. McCraney critiques organized religion for claiming to have already done the seeking, encouraging followers to adopt labels (Calvinist, Mormon, Catholic) without personal investigation. He advocates for individual liberty through direct engagement with Scripture, positioning authentic faith as active pursuit rather than passive acceptance of doctrinal systems.

Within the faith, believers have all sorts of things we say as a means to explain away unknowable situations and events, don’t we? Why does God allow suffering? We postulate. Why are we really here and why does he keep us here? And we suggest. How come he doesn’t tell us how he made the created universe? And we expound.
Interestingly, most of our responses to these things suggest stuff like God wants “us to learn, to face obstacles, to test us, is helping us “grow in our faith.” But I suggest that in addition to these responses we might add, God wants us to seek. The scriptures support the idea that people are to, in fact, seek out mysteries.
Biblical Encouragement to Seek
Proverbs 25:2 says, “It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.” And Paul says in Colossians 2:1-3, . . . to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Of course, Jesus said in Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
The writer of Hebrews said 11:6: And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
1 Chronicles 16:11: Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!
Proverbs 8:17: I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.
Jeremiah 29:13: You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Deuteronomy 4:29: But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Matthew 7:7-8: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
Psalm 14:2: The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.
James 1:5: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
The Role of Religion in Seeking
Any Bible reader knows that God wants us to seek Him out, to search for truth, to dig until we find Him, and His mysteries are unveiled. Have you ever thought about Religion suggesting to people that it has already done the seeking? That it has the answers so you don’t have to look for them; all you have to look to THEM.? Many people trust this, and call themselves names that capture the thoughts concluded - Calvinists, Mormons, Catholics, Arminians, Trinitarians and on and on and on.
I suggest to you that the living God wants each individual to seek Him. That you leave no stone unturned in your Christian walk. Challenge all of it, everything, what I say and teach, what your pastors say, what tradition claims. Challenge, test, ask questions, and seek.
Encouragement for Seekers
Because when you do you will find. And what you find might surprise you, and might contradict them, but will draw you closer to Him. Look under the covers. Test all things and you boldly stand before your God holding fast to what is good. God LOVES a seeker. You honor him by testing, challenging, and searching all things.
You will not be liked for it by many people. Because of traditions, they will rise up like mama bears protecting their cubs. But God is with YOU. YOU. So you seek, and YOU will find. And you will experience liberty, resolve, new hopes and insights, and joy that surpasses the world AND the religious traditions made by man.
